Refreshed Summer Space

Spring might be the season of change, but summer has always been the season of moving. As you might remember, my biggest project last summer was moving into my current apartment. It was a large but rewarding task to truly outfit the entire blank space.

Since I’m not moving this year, which I’m grateful for no doubt, I’ve been trying to scratch my design itch, as I’ve been watching a lot of my friends move and decorate blank spaces of their own. While giving them advice and pointers, it’s sparked my need to do a little bit of seasonal touch ups around my space.

A quick and colorful refreshed side table for the summer

These little updates needed to have purpose, but not break the bank. The easiest place to make quick design changes are through textiles and artwork. Through Instagram, I stumbled upon a Texas graphic designer who created some amazing pieces of musicians including Kacey Musgraves, Harry Styles, and my personal favorite, Dua Lipa. With the release of the excellent Future Nostalgia, his Dua Lipa print was perfect. It’s got the right amount of color I needed to refresh my side table.

I wanted to pull in some color from the piece, which is based in that trendy mustard yellow color with bright shades of orange and a pretty blue. I snagged this little vase from IKEA (which was only $3 in store) and paired well with my existing orange one from At Home.

This Dua Lipa print is just as perfect as her second album

Another place to add color was this little striped tray, also from IKEA. Trays are an inexpensive and easy way to switch up your style through the seasons. This preppy print gave me a Jonathan Adler-esque look for a fraction of the cost. Trays like this work well in kitchens, bathrooms and all around the house to hold keys, glasses, or something on your nightstand.

Lastly, I’ve been on the hunt for some small rugs around the house and was able to find a cute Oriental rug from Homegoods for just $30. Anyone who has looked at rugs knows they’re extremely expensive, so this find was a no brainier.

A few other items I picked up this summer include this tropical tray and this rainbow indoor/outdoor rug for my front door, great for Pride Month and all summer long.

These quick and easy changes were just what I needed to breathe some new life into my space for the summer. Knowing me, I’ll be wanting to change things up again in the fall, but for now, this hit the spot.
